About · the person behind JDCS

Hi, I'm James. I'm the consultant who builds.

JDCS is me, James Durkin, and a family-run business on the Mid North Coast. I've spent years looking after the technical side of small businesses, from websites and systems to the AI automation work that's the bulk of what I do now. The thread through all of it is simple: tell people the truth about what's worth doing, then build it properly.

The short version

A developer who got tired of half-answers.

I started out doing the technical work small businesses needed and could never quite get a straight answer on: websites that loaded slowly, tools that wouldn't talk to each other, the email and hosting that quietly broke at the worst time. Over the years that turned into something bigger. The same owners kept losing hours to the same repetitive jobs, and AI finally got good enough to take a real bite out of them.

The trouble was the advice around it. A lot of "AI consulting" stops at a strategy deck, hands the build to someone else, and never has to answer for whether it worked. I wanted to close that gap. So JDCS does both: the honest read on what's worth automating, and the build that makes it real, from the one person who stays accountable for the result.

I work with all sorts: trades and removalists, accountants and bookkeepers, clinics, real estate, cafes and online stores. It's less about the industry than the repetitive work eating someone's week. Most of it runs remotely, so where you are rarely matters.

How I work

What it's like to work with me.

The way I run a job comes down to a few things I won't budge on. They're the reason clients stay.

  1. One person, start to finish

The person who works out what's worth doing is the same one who builds it and keeps it running. No account managers, no handoffs, no telephone game between advice and work.

  2. Honest before it's helpful

Sometimes the right answer is a small fix or a tidied-up process, not a system. I'll say so, even when it means a smaller job. Trust is worth more than one invoice.

  3. Plain English, no hype

You get the real read on where AI and automation pay off, where they don't, and roughly what each is worth, in words that make sense without a tech background.

  4. Built to be yours

You own the code, the configuration and your data, with clean export terms and no lock-in. The work is built to keep running whether or not I'm in the picture.

That covers the day-to-day. The deeper end is the AI consulting and automation work: working out where the hours go, then building the systems that hand them back.

In their words

Rated 5.0 on Google, for the honest part.

The reviews that mean the most aren't about the code. They're the ones that mention being told the truth and being recommended what was genuinely best for the business, rather than what made me the most money. That's the bar I hold the work to.

Say hello

The first conversation is free.

Tell me what's eating your week. I'll give you a plain-English read on whether it's worth automating and what it would take, with no obligation and no sales follow-up. You keep the plan either way.
